Talks With Regional Director of Solidarity Center from Washington DC About Workers Rights

Representatives of the Center for Democracy Foundation talked with Regional Director of the Solidarity Center from Washington DC on actions in the area of labor rights.

Representatives of the Center for Democracy Foundation met with Rudy Porter, Regional Director for Europe and Asia of the Solidarity Center from Washington DC.

Solidarity Center contributes to the development of workers movement and strengthening the economic and political power of workers through support provided to unions for years.

Purpose of Mr. Porter’s visit was to be acquainted with the situation in Serbia and civil society organizations’ capacities for acting in the area of labor relations. Union “Independence” recommended Center for Democracy Foundation as the most relevant counterpart to discuss these issues.

Highest interest was expressed for the initiative Black on White and the results of our coalition’s work. It was presented that still a small number of civil society organizations is tackling workers’ rights and that our goal is to motivate and gather organizations around these topics, especially on the local level.

Large number of Solidarity Center’s activities are implemented aiming to organize those employed in informal economy and that was another topic of the meeting.

In addition, utilization of the new media has been highlighted as a positive trend and very important for directing attention to the workers’ problems and their organizing.
